SCAPULARS: PROTECTING BODY AND SOUL presents the works from Iris Eichenberg (DE/US), Rebekah Frank (US), Helena Lehtinen (FI), Eija Mustonen (FI), Marta Costa Reis (PT) and Jimena Rios (AR).

The scapular is a bodily object usually worn as a necklace with votive images in cloth, embroidery or other materials suspended over the chest and the back, as if shielding the human body and the heart. Is traces back to a kind of apron some monastics orders used to wear and became part of their attire. The smaller scapular emerged as a representation of an affiliation with some special devotion, indicating belonging, faith to but also merit and reward for the user.

The exhibition is inspired by the collection of religious scapulars assembled by Jimena Rios and establishes a strong affinity with the theme of the Biennale and with Teresa Lacerda's space/atelier.
